Meet Astrid

Founder of Maison Needlepoint

Astrid, the founder of Maison Needlepoint, is an entrepreneur and homemaker living in Bern, Switzerland, with her husband and their two children. Growing up in a small city in Belgium, Astrid’s passion for creativity began early. She spent her days exploring colors, patterns, and textures through numerous creative hobbies—a love for the arts that shaped her journey.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a drive for adventure, Astrid moved to Paris to pursue a career in fashion. There, she earned a Master’s in Fashion Management and an MBA in Luxury Marketing Management while gaining experience with prestigious fashion houses like Dior, Balenciaga, and John Galliano. After honing her expertise in the luxury fashion industry, Astrid returned to Belgium, working with fast fashion retailers to refine her skills in consulting and trend analysis.

In 2015, Astrid married and relocated to Münster, Germany, where she balanced family life with freelance consulting opportunities in fashion and interior design. A new chapter began when her family moved to Bern, Switzerland, opening the door to an unexpected creative pursuit: Maison Needlepoint.

Astrid’s journey—from her artistic childhood to her professional experience in fashion and design—has shaped her vision for Maison Needlepoint. Today, she brings her passion for creativity and design to the timeless craft of needlepoint, inspiring others to find joy, mindfulness, and connection in the flow of needle and thread.

Our Journey

The story behind Maison Needlepoint

Maison Needlepoint began with a grandmother's love for needle and thread. Astrid’s Mamie, a talented crocheter and knitter, passed down the soothing art of working with her hands, a tradition that stuck with Astrid throughout the years.

After a career in fashion and several international moves, Astrid found herself in Switzerland as a full-time homemaker. Amid the chaos of settling into a new life, she craved a creative outlet that would offer both relaxation and mindfulness. Inspired by her grandmother's quiet moments spent with needle and thread, Astrid tried her hand at counted cross-stitch, eventually discovering the world of needlepoint.

However, she quickly realized that modern, personality-filled designs were hard to come by in Europe, so she began designing her own. When friends and family took an interest and asked for Needlepoint kits, the idea for Maison Needlepoint was born.
