You’ve finished stitching your needlepoint (go you ✨), but the idea of lacing, sewing, or sending it out for professional framing feels… like a lot. Good news: framing your needlepoint doesn’t have to be complicated.
This lazy girl framing method is simple, affordable, and totally beginner-friendly. No sewing, no glue, no stress — just a premade frame, a mat cut to size, and a little painter’s tape. Perfect for small needlepoint pieces, gifts, or anything you want on the wall now, not six months from now.
What You’ll Need
Before you start, gather the following:
Your finished needlepoint piece
A premade frame (store-bought or online)
A custom mat, cut to fit your frame opening
Painter’s tape (low-tack is key!)
Scissors
A clean, flat surface

Step-by-Step: Framing Your Needlepoint
1. Prep Your Needlepoint
Make sure your needlepoint piece is fully stitched and blocked if needed.
2. Get the Right Mat Cut
Have a mat cut so the opening fits your stitched design exactly. The mat will do most of the visual work here, so clean, even margins make a big difference.
3. Center the Needlepoint on the Mat
Flip the mat over so you’re working on the back. Place your needlepoint behind the opening and carefully center the design so it sits straight and evenly within the window.
Take your time here — once it’s centered, everything else is easy.
4. Tape It in Place
Using painter’s tape, gently tape the needlepoint to the back of the mat. Start with one side, then move to the opposite side, keeping light tension so the canvas stays smooth but not stretched.
Work your way around until the piece feels secure. Painter’s tape is perfect because it holds well but won’t damage your canvas if you ever want to remove or reframe it.
5. Assemble the Frame
Once your needlepoint is taped in place, stack everything into your premade frame: glass (if using), mat with needlepoint attached, backing, and frame hardware.
Close it up — and that’s it.
That’s It!
Your needlepoint is now framed, hung, and ready to enjoy. This method is ideal if you want a polished look without the time, cost, or commitment of traditional framing techniques. It’s especially great for seasonal pieces, small projects, or needlepoint you might want to swap out later. Lazy girl approved.
